First Friday Las Vegas has canceled all outdoor activities for this week's January installment of the monthly arts and culture festival, citing the “extended cold forecasted throughout the Valley” as motive to postpone the open-air art exhibits, installations and food trucks typically positioned along Casino Center Boulevard.

In a statement released today, the organization encouraged festivalgoers to still take part in the indoor aspect of the festival and “support the local arts community,” as the cancellation more or less reduces the Downtown event to the venues that started it all: the galleries.

Just as most have done since First Friday’s inaugural installment in October 2002, area galleries including Arts Factory spaces, Brett Wesley Gallery, Cornerstone Gallery and more will open their doors on January 2. In addition to the numerous art exhibits to take in, neighborhood venues also will offer their usual First Friday programming, including the long-standing First Friday afterparty The Get Back at Velveteen Rabbit.

First Friday will announce additional activities throughout the week on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
