Even with a 70 percent chance of snow in the forecast and freezing temperatures, we’ll probably have the same number of 340,000 revelers on the Strip for New Year’s Eve, although they’re likely to spend more time indoors than out.
But they will all be out on the shuttered Strip at midnight for the 7-minute, 11-second America’s Party fireworks spectacular.
Dec. 31 visitors will add $226 million to our economy for the night. It is true that you can buy a $500,000 VIP champagne table at Hakkasan in MGM Grand and a $250,000 package at Hyde Bellagio that includes programming one song on the Bellagio Fountains display.
Ace of Spades champagne bottles come in a 30-liter size: That’s equal to 40 regular bottles of the bubbly Champagne wishes indeed. There’s even 23-karat gold lasagna being served at $100 a slice at the Italian restaurant Portofino in the Mirage.
The highlight, of course, will be those fireworks blasting to the music of Whitney Houston, Pitbull and One Republic from the rooftops of seven Strip hotel-casinos, as we detailed in our story posted Dec. 18.
Maybe ride the High Roller observation wheel at the Linq Promenade for the warmest view of the fireworks? For the first time, the Mirage is building a viewing platform alongside its fiery volcano for VIP guests to watch the show.
It takes a year of planning and building for the one-night super-show, and everything gets packed away by Thursday as planning for next Dec. 31 begins. Yes, New Year’s Eve is so big in Las Vegas that it takes a yearlong effort to bring it altogether in the world’s best party town.
For the second consecutive year, Mandalay Bay will invite guests to “Paint the Town Gold” with the entire casino-resort transformed into a golden wonderland. Celebrity chef Charlie Palmer will dress his flying wine angels in gold suits for the night at Aureole
The mega-party starts at 5 p.m. and rolls right through the midnight countdown. The only sad note is that it’s the closing night of Mix atop the Delano that will reopen later in the New Year.
Before that midnight countdown, Las Vegas can lay claim to having more superstars entertain than any other city on Earth. We have Jennifer Lopez at Caesars Palace, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga at the Cosmopolitan, Maroon 5 at Mandalay Bay, plus nightclub parties with Iggy Azalea (Drai’s), Robin Thicke (Foxtail), Macklemore + Ryan Lewis (1 OAK), DJ Pauly D (Vanity) and Drake (Marquee) . Our Vegas DeLuxe team will be out in force covering this smorgasbord of sassy and sexy stars — and answering the question if Lady Gaga will go bald for her duets at the Chelsea.
All the excitement is topped off downtown with 13 rock tribute bands in a concert on Fremont Street lasting until 3:30 a.m. Tattoo pinup artist Sabina Kelley keeps the party going to 5 a.m. with her bash at the Stratosphere.
If you celebrate with one too many as the sun comes up, I have some Hooplaha suggestions via YouTube to guide you through hangover cures.
So without further ado, let’s pop open the bubbly and toast to the fun of the best night of the Las Vegas year with the ultimate Royal Robin Rundown:

Caesars PalaceTransport yourself to the opulent and excessive Roman Empire at Caesars Palace. But the ever-changing Caesars Palace is far from ancient. The hotel and casino is constantly raising the bar for what visitors can expect in a Vegas resort experience.
Caesars Palace features 3,348 rooms and suites in five towers, including the new luxury boutique Nobu Hotel and Restaurant, which opened Feb. 4, 2013, in the totally remodeled Centurian Tower. Caesars features 129,000 square feet of gaming space, including the Strip’s largest poker room and a 250-seat sports book. Other amenities include about two dozen restaurants, a four-level shopping mall, four pools, a spa, Pure and Poetry nightclubs and Pussycat Dolls.
Dining options include restaurants from world-renown chefs Guy Savoy, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsay and, on Feb. 4, 2013, Nobu Matsuhisa.
You never know what characters you’ll run into at Caesars with regular performers like Jerry Seinfeld, Bette Midler, Elton John and maybe even the emperor himself.
3570 S. Las Vegas Boulevard Las Vegas, NV 89109 702-731-7110 Cosmopolitan of Las VegasThe Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas dares to be different. From the hotel’s red reservations desks to fine art found throughout the resort, The Cosmopolitan’s signature style is helping to pave its own path on the Las Vegas Strip.
Upon entering the resort, you’re greeted by pillars of video boards playing video art by Digital Kitchen and David Rockwell Studio exclusively produced for The Cosmopolitan. Just beyond that, you’ll find all your favorite casino games on the resort’s 100,000-square-foot casino floor.
The Cosmopolitan’s rooms standout as the resort’s most unique feature. About 2,220 of The Cosmopolitan’s 2,995 rooms have 6-foot deep terraces that span the length of the room, a first at a modern Strip hotel. Other in-room amenities include soaking tubs, kitchenettes and quirky accessories like artsy coffee table books.
The dining experience at The Cosmopolitan isn’t something you’ll find at other Strip resorts, either. All of The Cosmopolitan’s 13 restaurateurs are new to the Las Vegas market. You’ll find American steakhouse fare in a modern setting at STK, top-notch sushi at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and the freshest fish flown in from the Mediterranean daily at Estiatorio Milos.
Whether the sun is up or down, Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub is the place to find the party at The Cosmopolitan. The venue is a dayclub/nightclub, complete with a pool and cabanas outside and three different rooms with three different vibes inside.
If nightclubs aren’t your thing, you can grab a drink at one of The Cosmopolitan’s five other bars, like The Chandelier, which is encased in 2 million dripping crystals.
