No more Bull? Tim Cahill scores for the New York Red Bulls against New England Revolution.
The club future of Tim Cahill is in doubt after the Socceroos forward was omitted from the New York Red Bulls protected player list for the 2014 MLS expansion draft.
Despite having one year remaining on his deal with the Red Bulls, Cahill may be on the lookout for a new club after he was made available for selection by the two new MLS expansion clubs, Orlando City and New York City.
Cahill scored two goals in 23 games for New York Red Bulls this season and was one of their three marquee players alongside Thierry Henry and Bradley Wright-Phillips. However he appears on the outer and could be looking for a new club immediately after the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia.
Speaking to American media, Cahill said he will discuss his future after the tournament but hinted his time has come to an end with the MLS franchise.
"You know. I'm going to have a little break with the kids. Chill out. I'm going to play in [the] Asian Cup and try and do well for my country," he told Empire of Soccer. "I'll talk with the club afterwards but I've enjoyed it. It's been an unbelievable two-and-a-half years."
Should he leave before the end of his deal, Cahill will probably have a host of potential suitors from the A-League, having previously held talks with Sydney FC only for a deal to collapse when the club could not meet his asking price.
Sydney have no free marquee spots with Alex Brosque, the Australian marquee, and Marc Janko occupying the visa spot, but Cahill could be available as a guest player for up to 10 games.
Cahill has also been linked with a guest stint with Western Sydney Wanderers in the past.
The 35-year-old is now on holiday in South Africa with his family before he joins the Socceroos camp this month in preparation for the Asian Cup.
