The defender faces another long spell on the sidelines after it was revealed on Friday that he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury for the second time in his career.
McIntyre admitted: "It's a real blow. But the one thing he's got is the mental strength of having been through it before, so he knows exactly what is required.
"A cruciate can be anything from six months, to nine months to a year, you don't know these figures until the surgeon has been in and done his business."
Barr suffered the knee injury last week when he completed the game despite being hurt.
McIntyre added: "We'd made our three subs and he didn't want to come off but we were as surprised as anybody when we got the news. It's disappointing."
As for Saturday’s game, County netted three times in the space of 15 first-half minutes and McIntyre said: "It was very pleasing.
"I thought we started the game really well and it was a fantastic team performance.
"We had a few players who hadn't played in a wee while, and I thought they did exceptionally well.
"The front four particularly caused real problems, they were interchanging and had good movement with their positions, and we played the game with a good tempo."
His opposite number at Kilmarnock, Allan Johnston, was understandably downbeat by the manner of the defeat.
Johnston stressed: "I don't think there can be any excuses. We were poor throughout the whole team.
"From start to finish it wasn't good enough. Obviously in the first half the goals we lost, when we've been looking solid defensively, to lose them so cheaply is really frustrating.
"We never passed the ball anywhere like we have been recently and, to be fair, I don't think we worked as hard as we have been.
“There was a lack of energy that was frustrating from our point of view."
